Christina Salavec Wins!

2002 Level 8 Regional Champion

Christina Salavex is the 2002 Level 8 Regional champion. It all came down to one vault. Christina just nailed all three of her events up to this point. Her first vault was the most powerfull vault she has ever done, but during the landing she over-rotated and rolled backwards. Even with the fall, it still scored a 8.9, but she new it was not enough. After some insperation from her coaches, she vaults again, this time nailing the landing and receiving a 9.35, which placed her 1st in the All-Around with a 37.50. She also placed 1st on Floor with a 9.3, 4th on Bars with a 9.375, 6th on beam with a 9.30, and 4th on Vault. Christina went from being the level 6 State Champion in 2001 to the Level 8 Regional Champion in one year!

Analiza Fuentes won the silver on vaulting scoring 9.15 on her piked Tsukahara, which was the first time she performed the skill in a competition. She also received a ranking of 14th in the Region with an All-Around score of 34.825.

Kathleen Clifford and Domenique DeRosa are also among the top level 8's in our state selected to represent NY in this extremely competitive weekend. Domenique received a ranking of 9th in our Region with an all-around score of 35.875 and she placed 4th on Bars with a 9.0. Kathleen placed 9th on bars and beam with a 9.3 and a 9.1, and was ranked 12th in her age division with a score of 36.325.

Team New York Wins !

Our region is named "Region 6", which is comprised of NY,CT,RI,VT,NH, & MA. The Regional competition was held in Milford, CT on May 18th&19th. The competitors consisted of the top athletes from each state. Each gymnast competes individuallay and as a team with the state they are representing. The top 5 scores on each event count towards the team score for that state. Team New York place 1st on all age divisions winning the team competition for the weekend! Go NY!
